Other free food promo that turn out bad

From
New york Magzine:

Summer 2003:

Red Lobster’s $22.99 “Endless Crab” gambit cost the company president her job after the seafood chain molted big money. “It wasn't the second helping, it was the third that hurt," chief executive Joe Lee explained. “And the fourth.” [

January 2009:

Carl’s Jr. texts contest winners a code that enables them to print a free-burger coupon from the L.A. Lakers website. The promotion is canceled after only 50 redemptions, a move that one blogger attributed to the company noticing “that the limited-circulation coupon code was in fact making the rounds of the many, many Web sites focused on aggregating coupon deals and free stuff.” [

February 2009:

Quiznos corporate starts a “Million Free Subs” promotion, but actual Quiznos franchises say they can’t afford to give out free sandwiches. Individual stores all over the country refuse to honor the coupon, and corporate takes down the related website, millionsubs.com, after three days, asserting that all the sandwiches had been claimed. Spinal Tap Released a New Song:

AWESOME

From Billboasrd:

The inspiration for a new Spinal Tap album differs depending on who you ask. Harry Shearer -- who crafted Tap with partners Christopher Guest and Michael McKean and director Rob Reiner -- tells Billboard.com the 25th anniversary of the hit parody "This is Spinal Tap" meant "we should probably do it again. There were still a lot of Spinal Tap songs that had never been recorded."

But Tap bassist Derek Smalls contends that "Back From the Dead," which is due out June 16, has more to do with technological advancements than to commemorate a film that "made us out to be a laughing stock." "Basically," says Smalls (Shearer's Tap alter ego), "it was possible to put out a record that was louder than any we've ever had before, and that was a selling point right there. We could have the loudest Spinal Tap record there's ever been, and we thought, 'Well, yeah, why not?'"
