The Z Formation

Flash: NOT AWESOME
Luke:AWESOME

From the 20 go to 10 site:

Don’t make me snap my fingers in a “Z” for-MA-tion!
Exc-la-MA-tion!
Talk to the hand.
Slap my wrist.
Oh my god, you just got dissed!

From the urban dictionary:

The formation in which you sanp your fingers. When someone does something to offend you, you exclaim "Oh no you di-int!" while snapping in this formation. A snap at each point in the "Z"

"Sabotage" in Star Trek

AWESOME

There seems to be more than a few complaints about JJ Abrams‘ use of the Beastie Boys‘ track Sabotage in the new Star Trek film. But it isn’t at all random, and not just inserted twenith centry pop culture. First off, the sequence in question is when 13-year-old James T Kirk steals his step-father’s antique convertable and drives it off a cliff.

I must give screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci credit on this one. I believe this scene to be a multi-layed metaphor, and the choice of music might be a call back to William Shatner, who played the James T Kirk in the original series.

The economics of Yankee Stadium vs Safeco field

Yankee: NOT AWESOME
Mariners: AWSOME

From
A Blog Post:

Ticket prices at the new Yankee Stadium are so high that if a New Yorker wants to watch a Mariners/Yankees game from the best seats, it would be a lot cheaper to fly to Seattle, stay in a nice hotel, eat fancy dinners, and see two games.

Option 1: Two tickets to Tuesday night, June 30, Mariners at Yanks, cost for just the tickets, $5,000.

Option 2: Two round-trip airline tickets to Seattle, Friday, Aug. 14, return Sunday the 16th, rental car for three days, two-night double occupancy stay in four-star hotel, two top tickets to both the Saturday and Sunday Yanks-Mariners games, two best-restaurant-in-town dinners for two. Total cost, $2,800. Plus-frequent flyer miles.

And what do they get for that as of this typing

Reporting a death in Seattle

Back on May 5, the West Seattle Blog reported on a death at the Roxbury Safeway, or, more specifically, a dead body at the Safeway, a woman who’d died elsewhere and was brought to the store by two men looking for a phone to report the death.

Reading this story it struck me that if I somehow came across someone who died, I’d have no idea whom to call. I’ve never been in the company of someone who’d passed away without also being in the company of someone who knew what to do. It dawned on me that I might not be the only one who was at a loss as to how to handle a death, so I turned to the Seattle Police Department for answers.

6 Crazy Things I just learned about the Metric system

The Digg charts have been going haywire over this map of countries that don’t use the Metric System. While grams and kilometers aren’t exactly embraced here, the US has definitely been flirting with the measurement scheme for a very long time (Jefferson was an advocate!). Here’s a look at 6 quirky things I just learned about the Metric System.
